The Gold Coast Masters Athletics Club
was formed 23rd October 1997, the driving force behind
the formation of the club
was Colin Murraylee. Twenty Seven people attended the
first meeting and it was decided that the new club would
be called the Gold Coast Veterans Athletics Club.
Initial training was conducted at Pizzey Park, Miami on
monday nights. Since the 1st March 1999 the club
has been based at the Gold Coast City Athletics track at
Gold Coast campus of Griffith University. The club has
storage space and room for meetings under the grandstand. Training
fees at the Gold Coast City Athletics track are $3.00 per
athlete.
Current membership fees consist of a $5.00 joining
fee and a $15.00 subscription fee, the financial year
runs from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.
At present there are 87 members in the club competing
in all track and field events. There are a number of coaches
in the club, these are listed below.

The Gold Coast
Masters Athletics Championships are a yearly event,
usually held in March or April depending on the dates
set for both the QMA State Championships
and the
AMA National Championships. The club attempts
to have these championships approxiamately 2 weeks
prior
to the state
championships.
A number of state, national and world records
are held by club members. There are two former olympians registered
with the club, these are Helen Searle (dual Olympian in Jumps)
and Warwick Selvey (Discus and Shot Put).
The Club's AGM is usually held towards the end of June each
year. |
